Whilst the rest of the country grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic, South African women fear for their lives in their homes where they often find themselves confined with an abuser. Unfortunately for South African women and gender-nonconforming people, being treated like second-rate citizens and being subjected to gender-based violence isn’t new.
